JPL Warriors U18 Blue Division
Today our U18 Performance team returned to league action in a highly anticipated reverse fixture against Wimborne Town. Having narrowly lost the away game earlier in the season, the squad was eager to balance the scales. Despite only having a bare 11 available today, the girls put in a performance that deserved at least a point—if not all three.
The first half was a display of high-quality football, highlighted by a moment of pure class to open the scoring. Following a wonderful cross from Ellie, Suzie rose to meet the ball with a clinical bullet header that gave the keeper no chance. We looked set to take the lead into the break, but a late corner was unfortunately not dealt with, allowing the visitors to scramble home an equaliser.
The second half was a completely different battle as the team found themselves playing against a fierce wind. It became a game of grit and determination, requiring the players to dig in doggedly and defend with everything they had. They did so brilliantly, showing incredible heart to keep Wimborne at bay for the majority of the half. Ultimately, it took a late penalty to separate the two sides—a definite infringement that we couldn't complain about—which allowed the visitors to snatch a 2-1 victory.
While the result is tough to take, the effort from the entire 11 was undeniable. To push such a strong side to the wire without the benefit of a bench is a massive achievement and speaks volumes about the fitness and spirit of this group.
The Player of the Match was awarded to Hannah for a fantastic, tireless performance. Hannah never gave an inch, fighting for every ball and, like so many of her teammates today, gave absolutely everything until the final whistle.
