Under 10 Performance Squad vs Broughton Youth

Our U10 Performance Team travelled to North Hampshire today for a challenging Cup fixture against Division 1 opponents, Broughton. While the final result was disappointing, the girls showed immense ability and incredible spirit against a tough, higher-division side.

The team came out of the blocks firing, delivering an absolutely brilliant start to the match. The energy, passing, and attacking intent were all exceptional, resulting in a well-deserved early goal.

Our domination in the first quarter was complete. The opponent's goal came under sustained pressure, and the scoreline could easily have been extended, with the woodwork being struck twice and several promising shots narrowly missing the mark. Crucially, the opposition was kept completely silent, failing to register a single shot on our goal. Despite this comprehensive performance, the team took only a narrow lead into the second break.

The middle two quarters proved to be a difficult learning experience. Broughton shifted tactics, playing a much more direct, long-ball style of football which proved very tricky for our team to manage.

Despite being behind on the scoreboard, the girls demonstrated their excellent attitude and high skill level in the final quarter. The coaching staff asked for a reaction, and the team delivered, displaying the sheer amount of ability they possess. This attitude, refusing to give up and continuing to play with heart, was an absolute pleasure to witness.

Ultimately, this was a story of two halves. Our first-quarter dominance was superb, but we must learn to be more clinical and take our chances when we are on top. While the girls are very disappointed with the final score, the result certainly doesn't reflect the overall flow and gameplay of the match. Playing a Division 1 side and putting in a performance like that shows how much credit they deserve.
